Catch Up with Mike Fleming

Catch Up with Mike Fleming

Mike Fleming is the embodiment of an old-school work ethic: a man who tackles any task with determination, a bit of grumbling, and a whole lot of heart. If you ever hear a familiar voice muttering under his breath, you can be sure it’s Mike, getting ready to roll up his sleeves. But as soon as the task is underway, his grumbling fades into the background, and his willingness to help takes center stage, both at work and in his home life.

When it comes to the holidays, Mike’s enthusiasm reaches new heights. His love for Christmas has become legendary in his community, and it’s no surprise that his home, known for “Anita’s Lights,” has even earned local news coverage. His roof might look like something straight out of a Christmas movie, with Mike perched up there like Clark Griswold, draping strings of lights with the precision of a man on a mission.

Affectionately known as “Uncle Mike,” he’s the husband of 24 years to Anita, the man behind the Christmas lights, and the force behind many family traditions. Mike loves golfing, taking vacations with friends, and, of course, rooting for his beloved Boston sports teams. He’s also a proud cat dad to Radar.

Mike’s career at JC&A spans two decades, with March 2025 marking his 20th year with the company. He started as an assistant superintendent and quickly worked his way up, earning promotions to superintendent and eventually field manager. His leadership and dedication to the job were most evident when he stepped into the role of field manager following the untimely passing of his good friend and colleague, George Smith. Taking on this new position was a turning point in Mike’s career and a proud moment for him.

Reflecting on his time at JC&A, Mike highlights two company traditions that stand out: delivering turkeys for Thanksgiving and the family Christmas party. Both are cherished moments, bringing together the JC&A team and their families in the spirit of giving and camaraderie.

When asked about his favorite projects, Mike fondly recalls his time as an assistant on the Wood Mill in Lawrence and the Fitchburg Mill, as well as his work as a superintendent on major projects like Lonza in Hopkinton, SBLI in Woburn, and Osram Sylvania in Wilmington. He’s also proud of his work at Bay Colony in Waltham and a number of other projects across the region—each one a testament to his skill, commitment, and leadership.

To Mike, “The JC&A Way” isn’t just a slogan; it’s a way of life. It means working alongside people who care about the job and are invested in doing their best to ensure success for their clients and the company. For Mike, it’s all about teamwork, pride in the work, and making JC&A a company to be proud of.

In a world that’s constantly changing, Mike Fleming remains a pillar of old-school values. He leads by example, with a work ethic that’s rooted in hard work, loyalty, and integrity. Through every project, every holiday light string, and each moment with his colleagues, Mike brings a steady, reliable presence that never wavers. Whether at work or home, Mike’s approach is timeless—a testament to the kind of leadership and commitment that make him an enduring force at JC&A.  And while Mike’s grumbling is part of the package, it’s always followed by action and a job well done!
