Construction Management Firm uses latest BIM Technology to Complete Parexel International
10/16/2009, Quincy, MA — J. Calnan & Associates, Inc., one of New England’s leading construction management firms specializing in world-class pre-construction services and challenging construction projects, recently completed the World Headquarters for the leading global bio/pharmaceutical services organization, Parexel. This project was a collaborative effort between Parexel; architect, ADD, Inc; construction manager, J. Calnan & Associates and engineer, RDK Engineers who all took advantage of the latest BIM technology.
Located in Waltham, MA, the new 63,500 square foot Corporate Headquarters included the complete gut and renovation of high-end executive office areas and is complete with a new gourmet kitchen and cafeteria with outdoor seating. At JC&A, we strive to implement sustainable construction methodologies on projects that incorporate energy efficiency, minimal waste and reduce consumption of natural resources whenever possible. Parexel was no exception and is anticipating LEED certification. The project team carried out a comprehensive job-waste recycling program where all recyclable materials such as bricks, concrete, drywall and metals were re-used, recycled and, in some cases, reprocessed onsite. Additional highlights include entry improvements, a three-story, sun-filled atrium, kitchenettes with hardwood flooring and metal plank ceilings and walls. Simultaneously, there were numerous exterior improvements including trees and plantings, stone work, parking lot reconfiguring, granite curbing and site walkways.
Subcontractor coordination was the key to successfully completing the project on time and within budget. Using the latest Building Information Modeling technology, the entire team had access to the Revit models and was able to hold several coordination/model reviews together before construction began. During these meetings, the team was able to identify and resolve conflicts in the MEP trades and avoid wasted materials and lost time.
“This project marks the ninth project along the East Coast for this global pharmaceutical leader,” says Jim Cahill, Vice President of J. Calnan & Associates, Inc. “We’ve enjoyed our long standing, strong relationship with Parexel both from a professional and a personal perspective and it’s the kind of relationship we strive to develop with all our clients. The utilization of Revit and other BIM software is just a continuation of our commitment to use the latest technology to provide our specialized services and exceed our client’s expectations.”
