Amazon Robotics K9 – Westborough

For “Project K9”, JC&A fit out an existing 60,000 SF warehouse and a new 250,000 SF shell building into a Amazon Robotics’ Innovation Hub located in Westborough, MA. The project utilized multiple phases and included a brand new MDF suite for the entire campus, six lines of robot manufacturing, office space, restrooms, and breakroom spaces. Much of the work was completed while the manufacturing was active in the space.

The new building was fit out for the client with numerous R&D, lab, manufacturing, and test areas. Highlights include a large three-story equipment mezzanine, restrooms, breakrooms, machine shop, print lab and numerous labs for testing. An Innovation Lab was created to allow the client to test and develop new concepts and prototypes. A regulatory lab was created with a large testing chamber to expand their in house testing capabilities. The manufacturing lines, final testing area, shipping and receiving were all installed in the existing warehouse and then relocated to the new building at a later stage of the construction.

The 70,000 SF of high-end corporate office space spanning two floors included a two-story lobby with full-height millwork feature wall, glass stair railings, wood paneled walls and new entrance. A coffee bar and prep kitchen was built on the first floor along with a large café area on the second floor. Common areas feature custom wood ceiling elements, stone islands, all new restrooms, and banquettes. Private offices, conference rooms, huddle rooms and phone rooms are spread throughout the office area along with cubicles. Two larger training rooms were built on the second floor, complete with a moveable partition wall and complex AV systems. Adjacent to the office space on the first floor, JC&A constructed locker and shower rooms along with a fitness center for Amazon employee use.

JC&A continues to complete ongoing construction projects at the Innovation Hub including new R&D areas and additional testing facilities for new warehouse robots.
