Cambridgeport Labs, located at 167 Sidney Street and 99 Erie Street, has officially achieved LEED® certification, following a comprehensive repositioning led by Barings and Greatland Realty Partners. The project strengthens East Cambridge’s standing as one of the region’s most active and sustainable life science hubs.
J. Calnan & Associates (JC&A) was brought on early in the process to assist ownership through an extensive preconstruction phase. Working alongside Ci Design and AVID Engineers, JC&A helped evaluate multiple design and laboratory layout options to establish the right approach for the project’s goals—ensuring flexibility, functionality, and long-term value.
The 56,000-square-foot redevelopment transformed two adjacent office buildings into modern life science facilities with more than 34,000 square feet of BL2 laboratory space. The work included full lab buildouts, masonry restoration, custom casework, and glass partitions throughout the open lab environments. Both buildings now feature high-performance systems and sustainable design elements that meet the rigorous standards of today’s research tenants.
“Cambridgeport Labs reflects a shared commitment to collaboration, sustainability, and innovation,” said Jim Cahill, President of JC&A. “We’re proud to have been part of a project that not only supports the life sciences community but also enhances Cambridge’s broader landscape of research and development.”
With its LEED® certification and flexible lab-ready infrastructure, Cambridgeport Labs offers tenants the rare combination of sustainable design, modern amenities, and a prime location within walking distance of MIT and Kendall Square.
