JC&A ON PACE TO COMPLETE PUMA HEADQUARTERS IN RECORD TIME

The finish line is in site as J. Calnan & Associates is on the last leg

8/29/2008, Quincy, MA — World-record holder in the 100 and 200 meter sprints, Usain Bolt of Jamaica crossed the finish line with the gold in his PUMA sneakers at this year’s Olympics in Beijing. J. Calnan and Associates has a different finish line in mind for PUMA, but the same expectations for success. The Quincy-based construction management firm is on record pace to complete PUMA’s North American headquarters in Westford, MA by early Fall.

The entire footprint takes up 19 acres of land and consists of the complete renovation of an existing 107,000 square foot building and the addition of a 23,000 two-story adjoining structure. Working collaboratively with the architect, Spagnolo Gisness, JC&A has maintained the schedule and will turn the new facility over to PUMA within the allotted 7 months.

Having completed a majority of the exterior work, the team is nearing the finish line. To date the team has replaced the existing gravel roof with a new environmentally sound TPO PVC roof; installed the metal panel façade and curtain wall; prepped to paint the 120,000 square foot brick veneer as well as completed a majority of the site remediation.

When complete, PUMA’s North American headquarters will house high-tech executive offices as well as cutting-edge retail, sales and branding centers. There will also be multiple display areas throughout the building showcasing PUMA’s latest products and gear. Additional features consist of a fully equipped gymnasium complete with state-of- the- art locker rooms and showers, as well as four contemporary kitchens and a catering kitchen. Interior highlights include a visually striking 60 foot long skylight as well as a lobby boasting an open atrium with 23 foot high ceilings and glass rails.

At JC&A we strive to implement sustainable construction methodologies on projects that incorporate energy efficiency, minimal waste and reduce consumption of natural resources whenever possible. PUMA is no exception. Currently, the project team is carrying out a comprehensive job-waste recycling program where all recyclable materials such as bricks, concrete, drywall, metal and steel are being reused, recycled and reprocessed onsite. There are also three water detention ponds that prevent contaminants from entering the conservation area. Twenty 12 foot solar tubes have also been installed throughout the project that will allow the natural light to illuminate the public corridors and there will also be a Solar photovoltaic (PV) system installed on the roof that will use natural sunlight to produce electricity without noise or any harmful emissions.

PUMA is the latest addition to JC&A’s impressive corporate client list that includes Reebok, NESN, iRobot, Philips Solid State Lighting Solutions, General Electric, the TJX Companies, Iron Mountain, Wyeth Pharmaceuticals, the MathWorks and EMC to name a few.
