7 More J. Calnan & Associates’ employees get LEED accredited
3/1/2009, Quincy, MA — J. Calnan and Associates, one of New England’s leading construction management firms specializing in pre-construction services and challenging construction projects, is proud to announce that seven more employees successfully passed the LEED Accreditation exam.
Project Executive, Steve Robak; Director of Special Projects, Scott Trull; Project Manager, Dan Charest; Superintendents, Grant Laliberte and Mike Keaney and Project Coordinators, Adam Arsenault and Megan Kukal are the latest to earn their LEED AP standing. JC&A strives to implement sustainable construction methodologies on projects that incorporate energy efficiency, minimal waste and reduce consumption of natural resources whenever possible. Part of this ongoing commitment includes training and ensuring that our employees are LEED accredited. JC&A recently held an intensive training program to prepare more of its employees for the accreditation process. We are proud to report that over 90% of our project management team is LEED accredited further enhancing our ability to offer sustainable solutions to our clients.
Recently JC&A celebrated the grand opening of Puma North America Corporate Headquarters where the entire team worked together to ensure the new offices went above and beyond the demands of today’s environmental standards, reducing energy, using recyclable/reusable materials, producing minimal waste and utilizing sustainable construction methods. In an effort to harness the sun’s natural energy, photovoltaic solar panels were installed to convert sunlight into renewable electrical energy. To increase the use of natural light and reduce the need for electrical lights, sixteen solar tubes were installed as well as the addition of 60 new windows in the renovated existing building. Windows are tinted to reduce heating and cooling requirements and rooms are affixed with energy efficient lights and motion sensors. Many building materials, such as bricks and drywall, were reused, recycled and reprocessed on site during the construction process. The roof was made of 135,000 square feet of environmentally friendly white TPO (Thermoplastic Polyolefin), rather than rubber. Several interior materials kept the environment in mind including recycled, renewable and biodegradable linoleum floors, eco solution carpet tiles and partially recycled content ceiling tiles.
Another recent project Parexel, in Billerica achieved its LEED CI Certification. In addition to diverting over 75% of the construction waste from landfills, some of the sustainable design features include low VOC emitting furniture, paints, carpets and adhesives, a green housekeeping program, efficient HVAC and plumbing fixtures.
Additionally, JC&A has built one of the largest geothermal residential developments in the Country, New England’s first Eco-Friendly Affordable Senior Housing Project and the oldest LEED EB Gold Building in the United States. We are also proud to have been the Construction Manager of Viega’s North American Training and Office facility, which was designed by Spagnolo Gisness & Associates and the recipient of the “IIDA New England Interior Design Award” for teamwork and best sustainable design.
