J. Calnan & Associates, Inc. Celebrates the Grand Opening of the Improved MetroWest YMCA
10/30/2008, Quincy, MA — J. Calnan & Associates, Inc., one of New England’s leading construction management firms specializing in pre-construction services and challenging construction management projects, recently completed a very important project for the town of Framingham – an improved MetroWest YMCA. The renovation and expansion project included a 10,000-square-foot facility addition, bringing the total building size up to 50,250-square-feet and significant upgrades to the Old Connecticut Path facility.
The last major renovation and expansion to the MetroWest YMCA was in 1987 and the community is thrilled with their new and improved facility. The differences in the remodeled building can be seen just walking in the door, said Bob Johnson, branch executive for the Framingham YMCA. The large teen game room greets people as they enter the building. And the front desk is double the size of the old one, Johnson said.
The benefits of the renovation and expansion include an open and spatial front entrance and Member Services area; elevators for both floors; an improved Child Watch Room; an ADA compliant toddler and pre-school playground system; a new Wellness Center twice the size of the old; a larger Teen/Family Lounge area; improvements to the Family/Special Needs Locker Room; upgrades to the Adult and Youth Locker Room; a fully renovated and expanded Body, Mind, Spirit Room for yoga and pre/post partum classes; new multi-purpose classrooms; and parking additions and landscape improvements.
One of the biggest challenges for this project team was to make sure it was open during the entire 13 months of construction. Working collaboratively with Shesky Architects, J. Calnan & Associates was able to keep the facility fully functioning with minimal disruptions to the members.
