JC&A Nominated for 3 of the 6 projects in the Large Project Category
6/30/2009, Quincy, MA — The International Interior Design Association named J. Calnan & Associates, Spagnolo Gisness & Associates, AHA Engineers and the rest of the Puma NA Headquarters project team winners in the large project category of “Best Project Over 80,000 SF” at their recent awards ceremony held at the Museum of Fine Arts. Three of the six projects nominated in this category were built by J. Calnan & Associates including iRobot, designed by ADD, Inc. and Chase Mills designed by Sasaki.
The project team successfully translated PUMA’s brand vision and personality in the new award-winning building, which houses the US operations for sales, marketing, retail, product merchandising, customer service, operations and finance. Measuring 129,000 square feet on 19 acres, PUMA North America is a two-story building holding 140 offices and 20 meeting spaces, including a Brand Center for sales and merchandising meetings as well as brand events, and four café areas and a food prep facility. A modern 1,500 square foot gymnasium including locker rooms and showers was built exclusively for the employees, to encourage a healthy and active lifestyle. Multiple product displays were designed to uniquely showcase PUMA’s footwear, apparel and accessories, including a catwalk in the front lobby as well as a gallery display of historical PUMA products such as the Mostro and PUMA Clyde. In line with the brand’s playful demeanor, the signature PUMA Red, quirky PUMA icons as well as the PUMA Cat are featured throughout the building. Interior highlights include a visually striking 60 foot long skylight as well as a lobby boasting an open atrium with 23 foot high ceilings and glass rails.
“SGA really understood PUMA NA’s vision for the building and designed an award-winning space that aligned with the PUMA brand. It was a privilege to partner with such a collaborative firm and to execute their world-class design,” said Jay Calnan, President of JC&A.
J. Calnan and Associates has been the construction manager of award-winning projects since the inception of the IIDA awards. Last year, JC&A and Sasaki walked away with the “Best in Show” Award and “Best Office 20,000-80,000 SF” for their work on Philips Solid-State Lighting Solutions (Color Kinetics). In 2007, JC&A and Spagnolo Gisness & Associates, Inc. received the 2007 Interior Design Award in the sustainable category for its Viega USA project.
