6/4/2009, Quincy, MA — J. Calnan & Associates, one of New England’s leading construction management firms specializing in pre-construction services and challenging construction projects, recently completed the first phase of construction for L1 Identity Solutions’ Secure Credentialing Division in Billerica, MA. Working collaboratively with Visnick & Caulfield Architects, WB Engineers, Diversified Project Management and many of our subcontractor partners, the project team was able to deliver the first phase of the 90,000 square foot fast track project and move L1 Secure Credentialing into their expanded space over the weekend.


Phase 1 of the project included the fit-out of 60,000 square feet of additional space to L1’s current facilities at 296 Concord Road. The additional space includes new corporate office areas; state-of-the-art computer labs; factory space with a production area; a large data center and conferencing/meeting rooms.. Some of the challenges included transferring the current data center to the new data center with uninterrupted service to a fully functioning office environment. The project team kept the data center alive throughout the duration of the project. Another interesting challenge was that JC&A had to turn the first phase over faster than the time it typically takes to procure materials all while creating minimal disruptions to the neighboring tenants. “Leveraging nearly fourteen years of solid subcontractor and vendor relationships, we were able to work with our partners to fast-track material deliveries and work off-hours to maintain the tight schedule and minimize disruptions,” said Project Executive, Stephen Robak. “We look forward to delivering the next 30,000 square feet next month for this world-class client.”


The project team is currently underway with Phase 2 of the project.

As Director of Preconstruction., J.R. has 20 years of experience in the A/E/C industry ranging from conceptual estimates to delivering GMP pricing with hard bid/lump sum as well as value analysis and constructability reviews His extensive experience with life science, corporate buildouts, and ground-up buildings has made him a valuable asset to the JC&A family. J.R.’s involvement in multiple projects ranging in size and complexity from 245 5th Ave., 690 Canton, Merchant’s Row, Boston Dynamics, irobot, and Boston Harley-Davidson makes him an asset for JCA and our clients.

Beyond being our “go-to” on our cornerstone projects, J.R. is constantly a mentor helping with the overall development of the Estimating department. He leads by example, his estimating skillset, technical aptitude, organization, and preconstruction game-planning through final client delivery is second to none.

J.R. holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Construction Management from The University of Southern Mississippi and is a LEED Accredited Professional. He also proudly serves on the Duxbury Youth Baseball board. When he’s not coaching baseball, J.R. spends time on the beach in Duxbury, MA with his family.
