9/24/2010, Quincy, MA — For the fourth consecutive year, J. Calnan & Associates, Inc. ranked among the top corporate charitable givers in Massachusetts according to a recent report by the Boston Business Journal. The company was recognized for its charitable giving and for the contributions made by J. Calnan & Associates’ employees and ranked #5 overall for average per-employee volunteer hours.
The announcement was made recently at the fourth annual Corporate Philanthropy Summit held at the Renaissance Boston Waterfront Hotel which was attended by nearly 1000 leaders representing a wide range of local and national companies with a presence in Massachusetts as well as many non-profit organizations.
“As business leaders it is important to give back to the communities in which we work and live in positive ways,” said Jay Calnan, President of J. Calnan & Associates. “As with many of the firms recognized at the Summit, philanthropy is part of our company culture at JC&A and we will continue to do what we can to make a difference. J. Calnan and Associates is proud to be listed among such successful and socially responsible companies.”
J. Calnan & Associates has always been involved with and continues to give time and financial resources to organizations like The United Way, Make-A-Wish Foundation, Children’s Hospital, and the Jimmy Fund. Last year, JC&A had the opportunity to grant a Make-A-Wish child his wish of having a pirate ship themed tree house; build a new bakery for the St. Coletta and Cardinal Cushing School of Massachusetts and convert a basement into a handicapped accessible living area for a child recently involved in a hockey accident.
This year, however, J. Calnan & Associates had the opportunity to get involved with a very special organization called Friends of Jaclyn, a 501(c)(3) charity that helps children suffering from pediatric brain tumors by pairing them with an athletic team that provides the sick child continuous love, friendship and support throughout their treatment and beyond. JC&A now runs all of FOJ’s marketing, accounting and philanthropic efforts in-house. Since JC&A got involved, they have created a business structure identifying clear roles and responsibilities, marketing collateral including a new website, pamphlets and brochures and a held a fundraiser netting over $250,000 for the cause all while creating much needed awareness for FOJ. To date we have paired over 200 children with athletic teams across the country!
Denis Murphy, FOJ Founder and Jaclyn’s dad recently called Jay his “angel” and went on to say that:
“There are all different types of human beings that walk on this planet. I have been blessed to have crossed paths with a very special individual, Jay Calnan.
Jay has had a significant impact on not only my family’s life but hundreds of children and their families battling brain tumors. Our journey is different than the average person. I have a wife and two beautiful girls, which the oldest Jaclyn, has been afflicted with a malignant brain tumor.
Most people we pass along our journey stare, stop in their path, ridicule or just plain ignore my daughter. Not Jay. He has embraced our journey and cause and has made incredible contributions. Through his generosity, commitment, support and friendship, we have made an impact globally to families like mine.
If personal integrity and ethical behavior were ever measured in an individual walking on this planet, Jay Calnan exceeds expectations going above and beyond for his dedication to and passion for helping others.”
