Calnan & Associates, Inc., one of New England’s leading construction management firms specializing in world-class pre-construction services and challenging construction projects, recently completed Phase 1 of a challenging 85,000 square foot renovation for Constant Contact.
Constant Contact, the leader in email marketing solutions for small companies, was in need of more commercial office space in order to train and house their expanding workforce. Working collaboratively with Visnick & Caulfield, WB Engineers and Boston Properties, J. Calnan & Associates constructed a new state-of-the-art Network Operations Center complete with projectors and fully integrated A/V systems as well as a media room for online podcasts. The new layout allows the systems furniture occupants to benefit from the natural light emitted from the perimeter windows. In addition, many of the existing partitions for these offices were salvaged to reduce waste and the volume of new materials that had to be brought on site.
Several challenges faced the project team throughout construction. Since this was a fully occupied building, existing tenants could not be disturbed above, below or on either side of the construction area. Noise and common area cleanliness were top of mind and were kept at acceptable standards during all normal working hours. Loading and unloading hours were also limited to early mornings and with little staging room for materials on site, close coordination of subcontractor movement was necessary throughout the duration of the project.
The project team is currently underway with Phase 2 of the project which consists of a “Great Room” for large training events, complete with a kitchen and pantry and recycling station.
